Funktap is the brain child of Dave Mattock filtered through the lens of an organ trio featuring Dave, guitarist Jason Herrmann, and drummer Josh Orlando. After many years percolating on the Philly live jam band and jazz scene, Funktap was introduced to the wider world with their 2020 album Funktap, a self released full length album under Dave's name. Featuring ten of Dave's original compositions, Funktap blended features of traditional organ trio jazz with modern grooves, complex melodies, and inspired individual performances. The trio has continued to perform these tunes, as well as consistently trying out new music, over the last four years at countless shows in the Philly area. The follow-up to this recording is set for release in early 2025, Titled Knucklebox (a reference to the musical and technical puzzles that best describe this music), the new recording continues where Funktap left off but with a harder edge and more sonic elements as the band experiments with new ways to bring Dave's music to life. The Aston Brass Band is a New Orleans style brass band covering bands like Rebirth Brass Band and Dirty Dozen Brass Band as well as mixing in some jazz-funk (i.e. Herbie Hancock), Dixieland (Preservation Hall), Swing (Cab Calloway), and 2nd line favorites
